BBC WORLD SERVICE Tuesday 11 July 2006 Global Business – Anil Gupta And Neil Gershenfeld Tuesday 11 July 9.05-9.30am BBC World Service Anil Gupta has been called "a global guru of grassroots invention". His Society for Research and Initiatives for Sustainable Technologies (SRIST) has brought together local inventors to help solve everyday problems in Gujarati villages and farms. It currently boasts a database of 10,000 inventions. Now Anil Gupta has linked up with Neil Gershenfeld, Director of the Centre for Bits and Atoms at MIT, who says: "It was a humbling experience when Anil first introduced me to a group of these grassroots inventors. On their own they had managed to pick up a substantial materials science background, and were asking questions that went well beyond my own knowledge." Peter Day talks to them both.
