The Forum will be inaugurated on May 9, 2004 (Europe Day) and will run through to September 26, 2004 (the last day of the Festival of La Mercé, Barcelona's patron saint). The inventions that will change the world Inventions 2004 is looking for inventions that will make the world a better place to live in. Indigenous Knowledge Program (The World Bank)The Indigenous Knowledge (IK) Program's website opens a gateway to different sources on IK. It aims to facilitate a multilateral dialogue between local communities, NGOs, governments, donors, civil society and the private sector. The ultimate objective of the website is to help mainstream indigenous knowledge into activities of development partners and to optimize the benefits of development assistance, especially to the poor. From the Rural Village to the Global Village (International Development Research Center)One of the projects under the Acacia Initiative in Senegal, the Village Land Management and Rehabilitation Project seems best to merit the label 'revolutionary'. This is not so much because of the technical resources employed, but because of its target community — rural people — and the effort to bring information and communication technologies within reach of people generally left out by traditional modernization policies. Best Practices on Indigenous Knowledge (Database of Best Practices on Indigenous Knowledge)This database is part of the MOST database of Best Practices, which concentrates on poverty alleviation, but as yet has not touched upon indigenous knowledge. It contains examples of successful projects illustrating the use of this type of knowledge in the development of cost-effective and sustainable survival strategies, covering Africa, Asia, Europe and Latin America. It also includes a geographical and thematic index and an index of institutions.
